Our Class Advisor Mr. Webster Coon QUEENSBURY --
Webster 'Bud' Coon, 83, of Queensbury, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at Saratoga Hospital in the loving company of his family. Born on Christmas Day 1922, he was the youngest of three sons born to Herald and Mabel (Merrill) Coon of Bolton Landing. Bud graduated from Bolton High School. In 1947, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, and he earned a master's degree in education in 1949, both from Syracuse University. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, teaching gunnery to enlisted personnel, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Following graduation, he taught business courses at Harrison High School in Harrison from 1949 to 1951 and at Saratoga Springs High School from 1951 to 1960, serving as vice principal from 1960 to 1971. Upon his retirement from education in 1971, he owned and operated Marine Village Resort in Lake George for many years. Bud loved golf, from caddying as a teenager at the Sagamore Golf Course to playing golf himself well into his 70s. He also loved basketball and served as the coach for Harrison High School for both the varsity and junior varsity teams in the same season. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and sharing the events of their lives. Bud is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Bettina (Leser) Coon; two sons, Douglas Coon of Queensbury and Dean Coon and his wife, Debra Coon, both of Wilton; and five grandchildren, Erin, Kelly, Danielle, Thomas and Alexis.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway (584-5373 or burkefuneralhome.com).
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home by the Rev. Thomas T. Parke, rector of the Bethesda Episcopal Church. Spring interment will be in Bolton Landing Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his name to the Saratoga Care Foundation, 211 Church St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
